English: Thiruparankundram Murugan temple is located southwest of Madurai city. It is a major Hindu pilgrimage site in South India. The Thiruparankundram rock rises over 1000 feet. It is an excellent base for rock carving, and its eastern side was the material of choice and the source for many portions of the Minakshi temple, Madurai. This rock has many monuments around it.
