How to update
- Using Jupyter Notebook, run this code until "Save to file" for the month of the version of this file. For instance, if this file was last updated in December 2022, set
analyze_last_month = Falseandlast_month = date(2022, 12, 1)in "Month to analyze". This will save the data from that month in a text file. - Then, rerun the code from the beginning but this time with
analyze_last_month = Trueto get the latest data from the previous month. So if you're in February 2023, you'll get data from January 2023. Run the code until "Save to file" - Then run the "Compare 2 months" part and compare the two files you've just created. In our example it would be
month_a = '2022-12'(December 2022 data) andmonth_b = '2023-01'(January 2023 data). This will output the differences between these two files using the following format: [[[:w:ISO 3166-1 alpha-2|ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country code]]] [[[:w:ISO 639-1|ISO 639-1 language code of the most popular language in that country during month_a]]] ]ISO 639-1 language code of the most popular language in that country during month_a] [True if the most popular language changed, False otherwise] - Download the SVG file from the current page
- Open the SVG file with Inkscape for editing (you can use some other svg editor)
- Inside Inkscape, click on a country where the most popular language changed ("Compare 2 months" output) and change its color.
- Save the file and upload to the current page as an update ("Upload a new version of this file" below)
