English: Correct term: Yab-Yum, which represents the primordial union of wisdom and compassion. The male figure is usually linked to karuṇā, compassion, and upaya, skillful means, while the female partner relates to prajñā, insight. Padmasambhava was renowned as a tantric exorcist. He was invited to tibet by king Thisong Detsen(766-797A.D.) to tame the demons obstructing the path of Buddhism. This yab-yum figure is Vajrasattva in union with his consort, an important visualization deity (yidam).
