I start with an excerpt from "RAAKH" a novel by Mustansar Hussain Tarar: I read the novel years back and I was in Lahore on couple of occasions and took a stroll along Mazang Chowk - Choburji out skirting Miani Sahab Graveyard with some dedicated onlooking to find the grave of the Indian Drama Giant but could not. Miani Sahab is a jumbo maze of graves and on occasions you don't find what you are so dearly looking for. It was a couple of weeks back that WE were in Lahore and we went back to Miani Sahab to rehearse the stroll mentioned in the above excerpt. The luck had it and the very first group of undertakers in the graveyard we met indicated the grave just 3 - 4 yards away from where we were standing. Things had changed from the times of Mustansar Sahab's description and so was the gravestone. I could not find Munshi Dil Lakhnavi's Qata' e Tareekh e Wafaat, but the gravestone bore a somber look with all the vigor and vibrance of Agha Sahab's roaring dialogues absorbed smoothly into an earthen pile of dust. We paid homage to a drama great of his time whose legacy goes on. Rest in Peace Agha Sahab. |
