Puja, pooja, prayers in Hinduism

Yajna, fire agni deity with priest. In the hands of priest are a bell, and a ladle above ghee (clarified butter). They are making sacrificial offerings to the fire deity. The offerings are ghee, grains of different types - both of which have symbolic meaning in Hinduism.

An aarti plate is also visible to the right of the fire box (yajna) and the priest (bottom center of the picture). There is a diya, rice and camphor in there. This is one type of family puja, usually held inside one's home. Friends and family are typically invited.
