JAP 33RD ARMY SURRENDERS
The Japanese 33rd Army surrendered to 17 Indian Division at Thaton, north of Moulmein, in the last week of October. This was the Jap Army that struck at India in the Kohima and Imphal areas early in 1944. Jap commanders handed their swords to Maj. Gen. W. A. Crowther, DSO, 17 Indian Division Commander.
