English: Mangueshi Temple, a temple dedicated to Lord Manguesh, an incarnation of Lord Shiva, is located in Ponda district of Goa.
According to a legend, after losing a game of dice to Goddess Parvati, Lord Shiva had come down from Kailash. When the goddess came looking for him, He decided to scare her by turning himself into a tiger. Seeing the approaching animal, Goddess Parvati cried out in fright which made Lord Shiva change his form and return to Kailash with her. A temple was constructed at the place the incident took place near the Cortalim village but Portugese invasion forced the temple to be shifted to its current location at Priol and its reconstruction took place under the Maratha regime. The temple architecture has distinct Maratha and Mughal influence which is evident by the elegant domes and balusters. One of the distinguishing features of this temple is the beautiful seven-storey lamp tower erected outside the temple complex meant to be illuminated with diyas on special occasions and festivals.हिन्दी: गोवा के पोंडा जिले में भगवान शिव के अवतार, भगवान मंगेश को समर्पित एक मंदिर स्थित है, जिसे मंगेशी मंदिर के नाम से जाना जाता हैं।
एक पौराणिक कथा के अनुसार, देवी पार्वती से चौसर का खेल हार जाने के कारण, भगवान शिव को अपना निवास स्थान कैलाश पर्वत त्यागना पड़ा। उन्होंने दक्षिण की ओर चलना आरम्भ किया और सह्याद्री पर्वत को पार करते हुए कुशास्थली (वर्तमान कोर्तलीम) जा पहुँचे। जब देवी पार्वती उनकी तलाश में यहाँ आई, तो भगवान शिव ने खुद को बाघ में बदलकर उन्हें डराने का फैसला किया। घबरा कर देवी पार्वती के मुख से "हे गिरिशा ममत्राहि " (मदत करो गिरिजापति) की जगह त्राहिमांगिरीश निकल गया। इस घटना के बाद यहाँ भगवान शिव को मंगिरीश के नाम से जाना जाने लगा और उन्हें समर्पित एक मंदिर का निर्माण किया गया, लेकिन पुर्तगाली आक्रमण ने मंदिर को अपने वर्तमान स्थान, प्रियल, में स्थानांतरित करने के लिए मजबूर कर दिया। इसका पुनर्निर्माण मराठा शासन के तहत हुआ। मंदिर की वास्तुकला में मराठा और मुगल शैली का प्रभाव है जो सुरुचिपूर्ण गुंबद और लघुस्तंभ द्वारा स्पष्ट है। इस मंदिर की विशिष्ट विशेषता में से एक मंदिर परिसर के बाहर बनाया गया सुंदर सात मंजिला दीपस्तम्भ हैै, जिसे विशेष अवसरों और त्योहारों पर दीयों से सजाया जाता हैं। |
