Coin of the Bactrian King Agathokles circa 180 B, written in Brahmi script, found in Ai-Khanoum. The coin shows Hindu deities: Vasudeva-Krishna and Balarama-Samkarshana. Another, sharper, view of the same collection Obv Balarama-Samkarshana with Greek legend: ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΓΑΘΟΚΛΕΟΥΣ (Basileōs Agathokleous). Rev Vāsudeva-Krishna with Brahmi legend:𑀭𑀚𑀦𑁂 𑀅𑀕𑀣𑀼𑀼𑀓𑁆𑀮𑁂𑀬𑁂𑀲 Rajane Agathukleyesa "King Agathocles". These are "the earliest unambiguous images" of these deities.[1][2][3] |
