Vembanad is the largest lake in the state of Kerala and counted as one of the largest lakes in India. It is is internationally famous for snake boat races, especially Nehru Trophy Boat Race which is conducted on the second saturday of August every year. The Vembanad wetland system is the largest wetland system in India.
