DescriptionKalighat Kali temple (7169298723).jpg
One of the first places we say in Calcutta was the Kalighat Kali Temple. This is a Hindu temple dedicated to the Hindu goddess Kali. Seen here is the large rectangular covered platform called Natmondir which has been erected adjacent to the main temple, from where the face of the image can be seen. The historic temple was originally built by a powerful local, Zamindar Kasinath Roy in 1835. (May 2009)
